This is (to me) the most interesting image of the catalogue, seemingly drawn before a definite prototype was available. Two differences are particularly noteworthy: i) the keys are in the position where the light switch would later be, instead of being mounted on the column of the driving wheel; and ii) the clock is larger than the one actually used (it is a 10cm clock, as used in other Mercedes models of the time, instead of the smaller 8,5cm clock used) and the winding stem is also different from both the early one and the well-known flat vertical type used in most cars (see here a picture of the same area from the 1936 Owner's Manual showing the early winding stem). The catalogue indicates that an electric clock would be used but that mention may well be erronious or else the possibility was considered but never materialized. The ashtray and cigarette lighter are not represented in this depiction but they are mentioned in the catalogue text. |
