Comentários: "Onde quer que jazas entre sombras, sente-te sonhado e ergue-te para teu novo fado"- onde quer que a tua alma esteja, pressente que esperamos por ti e renasce para o teu novo destino" "Galaaz com pátria"- O Desejado, D.Sebastião que é equiparado a Sir Galahad, o cavaleiro virgem do Ciclo da Távola Redonda a quem foi dado conhecer o Santo Graal. A origem de Galahad era desconhecida (não tinha pátria) embora na verdade fosse filho de Sir Lancelot. "erguer a alma do teu povo à Eucaristia Nova"- trazer a Portugal a Nova Religião (Pessoa referiu-se várias vezes em outros escritos ao seu sonho de uma nova religião popular de cariz helénico). "Mestre da Paz"- O Senhor do 5º Império, O Desejado; "Excalibur do Fim"- Símbolo do fim do mundo tal como o conhecemos; arauto da Nova Era (cujo estabelecimento é a "suprema prova"). "revele o Santo Graal"- no Ciclo da Távola Redonda, o Graal desapareceu como castigo do amor adúltero de Guinevere e Lancelot e com ele foi-se a felicidade do Reino. O retorno do Graal representaria, pela mesma lógica, a união, paz e felicidade de todos os povos do mundo. |

The Yearned-for is the man that will lead Portugal and the world to the Fifth Empire and is often indistinctly called "The Hidden One", "King Sebastian" or "The King". Here Pessoa states his belief that this person will be Portuguese ("the penitent soul of your people") and will start a new religion (the "New Eucharist")- Pessoa argued, on several occasions, for a popular religion akin to the Greek paganism. In the last stanza of the poem he stresses twice that the Fifth Empire he dreams of, will be the Kingdom of Peace (and consequently will be established by peaceful- spiritual- means). In the King Arthur Cycle, the disappearance of the Holy Grail -because of the adultery of Guinevere with Lancelot- brought about war and misery to the kingdom; consequently the revealing of the Holy Grail by the Yearned-for means peace and happiness to the world of the Fifth Empire.
